Weaponising the common stereotype of Welsh as a strange, impenetrable language, Llanfair (as it used to be known) had its name lengthened somewhat to sell 19th-century tourist trips to the town with the longest place name in the world.
By now the strange name is widely known and many precocious British school children and Welsh University students make a point of memorizing it, a great party trick.
