Lake Arrowhead, Pacific Crest

Much like Big Bear Lake, Lake Arrowhead is a mountain resort town that was originally called Little Bear Lake.  It was renamed in the 1920s when the Arrowhead Lake Company purchased the area and developed it into an upscale retreat.

With easy access from Los Angeles, Hollywood soon took notice of its alpine harm, making the lake a sought-after filming location.  Its forested backdrop and sparkling waters doubled as the Swiss Alps in Heidi (1937), while its winding mountain roads set the stage for the adventure-comedy The Great Race (1965).  Both versions of the Parent Trap (1961 & 1998) captured the magic of summer camps here.

Adding to its elegance, early developers required homes to follow French Norman or English Tudo styles.  Modernist architect Rudolf Schindler even designed the first A-frame house here.  Celebrities like Charlie Chaplin, Shirley Temple, Robert Taylor, and Priscilla Presley have all called Lake Arrowhead home, further cementing its star-studded legacy.
