Bibracte is one of the most outstanding examples of a Gallic oppidum surviving today in France. It was home to the Aediu tribe, implacable enemies of Caesar.
Visitors here can see the sloping defensive mounds and a reconstruction of the kind of wooden palisade that kept the Romans at bay during the Gallic Wars. Then, I they’ve worked up an appetite exploring its tall earthen mounds and the little museum, they can retire to the onsite restaurant, which serves an interpretation of ancient Gallic cuisine.
