Caimans lurk in almost every watery habitat in the Amazon: swamps, rivers, lakes and streams. They are generally quite a bit smaller than their cousins the alligators and crocodiles, but hunt in a similar manner, waiting patiently underwater for their prey to appear before striking quick, swallowing the victim whole.
The males also perform a strange mating ritual, consisting of subsonic bellows which vibrate the water, causing little jets and bubbles, surely irresistible to any lady.
