Pilgrims will cross this gorgeous part of the Pyrenees on their way from France. As well as being full of lovely mountain scenery and the rustic charm of grazing sheep and old farmhouses, the area around Roncesvalles is saturated with history and myth.
According
to the 11th Century poem ‘The Song of Roland’, it was here that the
eponymous Frankish knight met his end. Killed in an ambush but immortalized in
countless songs and romances.
