The Raggiana bird-of-paradise is Papua New Guinea’s national bird. The male is quite colourful with fantastic red to orange plumage, whereas the female is quite plain with its maroonish-brown colour.
Queen Alexandra’s birdwing butterfly was discovered in 1901. The female, typically brown, is larger than the male, who is usually an iridescent blueish-green.
The
common spotted cuscus is a shy, nocturnal marsupial. Only the males have spots on their fur.
