Myola is a dry lake bed that was identified and named by Captain Herbert Kienzie during the Kokoda campaign. Due to unreliable maps and poor visibility many airdrops went astray, and supplies were either lost or heavily damaged.
Herbert
knew he needed a better drop zone for supplies and went in search of one when
he came across Myola. He requested that
all drops be made in this area and went about setting up a supply camp. Myola became the “logistical turning point of
the campaign.”
