As the hiker ascends the smoothed flagstones of the Inca Royal Road, they will eventually come to this dramatic valley. This is the highest pass on the trail and one of its toughest sections.
Looming above, the hiker will agree with the Inca that the peaks to their left resemble a supine woman, giving this pass its name. The strain is worth it; as the pass is conquered, the gigantic, snow-capped mountain at its end is revealed, presenting one of the most breathtaking views Peru has to offer.
