Now a ruin, Kenilworth Castle is saturated with history. First established by the Normans, it was then the site of a six-month siege in 1266, the longest in English history. It was here that Henry V received a gift of two tennis balls from the king of France, a grave insult which re-ignited the 100 Years’ War.
During
the Wars of the Roses, it served as the base of operations for the house of Lancaster,
and when Henry VII returned victorious from Bosworth Field, the castle became a
royal palace.
