Salitre
Cave is tucked away at the end of a narrow path, surrounded by jagged vertical
walls 262ft (80m) high. Consisting of
several cave rooms, the biggest one measures 210ft (64m) wide and 16ft (5m)
high.
At one time, the cave was heavily mined for saltpetre, a principal component of gunpowder, which was then used to break rocks to divert a river’s course. Natural science studies, musical concerts and sports such as bouldering and abseiling are conducted here.
