Llanddwyn
is a magical and romantic place, as steeped in myth and poetry as any corner of
this land of song. The island was once
the hermitage of Saint Dwynwen, the Welsh patron saint of lovers.
She
came here after being cruelly spurned by her fiancé, Dafodrill, and ever since
is said to be able to hear the despairing prayers of those suffering from
unrequited love. Even today, those with
love trouble make a pilgrimage to this island, seeking her blessing.
