Mysterious and largely unexplored, this newly discovered environment is a treasure trove of marine biodiversity. The hidden wonder is far bigger than previously thought, covering an astounding length of 1,000 kilometers (600 miles), or about the size of Cyprus and containing an explosion of colourful coral, fish and sponges.
Unfortunately,
its relative obscurity has left it vulnerable to the machinations of the oil
companies, who now threaten this once-pristine environment.
