ASTRA Museum of Ethnology, Transylvania

The rural cultures of Romania are a source of great pride and bittersweet nostalgia for Romanians and have captured the imaginations of many foreigners.

ASTRA is a huge open-air museum showcasing this village civilization and the culture of the peasant-folk of the country.

Their architectures, religions and ways of life are beautifully presented to the visitor here through original examples of churches, houses and working buildings, all carefully dismantled and rebuilt in the museum grounds.
