Usui Pass Railway Heritage Park, Nakasendo

The Usui Pass Railway Heritage Park is an open-air railway museum.  The Usui Pass was a transportation hub and initial plans for a railroad were abandoned because construction was too complex.

The idea was revisited at a later stage and in 1893 the Yokokawa-Karuizawa line opened.  It travelled through 26 tunnels and over 18 brick bridges.  When modern trains were introduced, the railway was closed and turned into a heritage park.
