Ludwig
II was probably Bavaria’s most famous king and certainly its most eccentric,
famous for building sumptuous palaces and castles that hearkened back to an idealized
age filled with chivalrous knights, fluttering banners and romance.
The kingdom’s finances buckled from the cost of these projects, but whilst wandering through the gardens and opulent halls of the Linderhof, it’s hard not to feel a little grateful to the Swan King for the beautiful dream he has left us.
