Lutyen's Delhi, Golden Triangle

In 1911, Edward Lutyens was charged with designing a new capital for the British Raj, the colonial rulers of India.  From his vision, this grand quarter of New Delhi was born.

Using the imposing forms of neo-classicism but swapping European decoration for indigenous Mughal and Hindu motifs and white Mediterranean marble for the soft browns and reds of local sandstone, the unique architectural landscape includes the Rashtrapati Bhavan, which is currently the official residence of the President.
