Wildlife, Pacific Trail

Hiking the PCT offers encounters with various wildlife, each adding a unique thrill to the journey.  Black bears from the forests along the trail, typically shy and avoiding humans but always nearby.  They are clever creatures, making it essential to stay cautious and use bear-proof containers for food.

Mountain lions, or cougars, prowl the more remote and rugged areas, elusive and rarely seen, yet knowing they’re out other adds an exciting layer of mystery.

In the higher elevations, big horn sheep, with their impressive, curled horns, can be spotted scaling rocky cliffs, perfectly adapted to navigate the steep terrain.

As the sun sets, the haunting howls of coyotes echo through the air, a reminder that the trail is their home too.

Birdwatchers are often regarded with sightings of peregrine falcons diving at incredible speeds to catch prey.

Near bodies of water, the graceful osprey, with its distinctive white head, hunts for fish.  The trail comes to life, knowing these remarkable creatures share the land and sky.
