Maya Glyphs, Chichen Itza

The Maya writing system consisted of glyphs written with a brush or quill feather.  This writing system is similar to Egyptian Hieroglyphs.

It uses pictorial representations of the natural world, with comets, fish fins, and centipedes populating the literature of the Mayans.  The Mayan glyphs are a complex and ingenious system that combines logographs and syllabic sounds.

It allows clever writers to depict the same word in many different ways based on their preferences.
