Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Pacific Crest

Located southeast of California, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is a world apart from its coastal beaches.  Spanning 600,000 acres, it is the largest state park in California and is renowned for its diverse landscape of badlands, sand dunes, cactus gardens, and rugged mountains.

Named after Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza, who crossed the desert in 1774, and “Borrego”, the Spanish word for sheep, the park is home to native bighorn sheep.

The best time to visit is during spring when wildflowers blanket the vast landscape in a stunning explosion of colour.
